BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Sabah is the northern part of Malaysian Borneo. It has a variety of terrains and ecosystems, from coastal areas to inland tropical jungle and up the highest mountain in South East Asia, 4095-meter high Mt. Kinabalu. Many of the plants and animals found in Sabah are unique to the area.
The region of present-day Sabah was discovered by Europeans around the early 16th century. This was during the period when the Sultanate was in its 'golden era'. The region was known as Sava to Portuguese explorers.
